Broadband and Infrastructure Projects

Yesterday I was walking under the Sydney Harbour Bridge and I came across the old Sydney to North Sydney punt ramp.

This is the ramp for the punt that the bridge replaced.

The cobbled ramp is one vehicle wide and in good order. I estimate the punt would accommodate about 10 minutes of the current traffic from the harbour bridge every 24 hours. That is the punt could carry about one trainload of passengers in omnibuses and other vehicles in a day.

When one stands there and compares the two – bridge/punt the comparison between this old icon and the new broadband infrastructure is stark. The scale of the bridge to the punt compared with ADSL or dial up to Broadband.

The question is how much opposition did the Tories give way back then? Did they propose to build the approach and leave the bridge? Or perhaps build a Spit Bridge?

Just go and have a look and see the contrast massive bridge and quant little punt ramp
